Studio portrait of 3616 Private (Pte) William Alexander Stuart, 52nd Battalion, originally from Manchester, England. A labourer prior to enlistment in Hobart, Tasmania, Pte Stuart embarked with the 11th Reinforcements, 12th Battalion from Melbourne on HMAT Ascanius (A11) on 10 November 1915. He was killed in action on 6 July 1916 in France, aged 29.
