Sutton, Percival Vernon Henry
Born Runnymede Tasmania the son of George Vollum and Elizabeth Sutton (nee Stebbings) a farmer he embarked Melbourne 19th February 1915 on board “HMAT Runic” with the 12th Infantry Battalion. He was killed in action 23rd April 1918 in France and is commemorated in the Meteren Military Cemetery, France. Mrs. G. V. Sutton of Runnymede has received a letter from Chaplain the Rev. H. A. Hayten 12th Battalion with reference to her son the late Private P. V. H. Sutton. He writes: "The attack in which your son lost his life was a great success and has earned his battalion much praise. The Commanding Officer wishes me to express to you and yours our deep and heartfelt sympathy. Your son took part in the attack on Meteren but was killed in the opening of the attack by an enemy sniper. He is buried in the military cemetery near Heter. A cross has been erected over the grave by the battalion."
