Talbot, George Frederick
Sgt Talbot died from wounds received at Pozieres and is buried Pozieres British Cemetery Ovillers-La Boisselle, France. Another boy from Burnie has made the supreme sacrifice in France. This is Sergt George F. Talbot, third son of Mrs Talbot of West Burnie, who died on April 13 from wounds received in a recent engagement Sergt Talbot was only 20 years of age, so was under 18 when in August, 1914 when volunteers were first appealed for he answered the call and went away with the Famous Twelfth. He took part in the landing of Gallipoli, and in this campaign he was wounded three times, but recovered sufficiently to return and participate in the evacuation in November 1915. One of the first Australians to set foot on French soil he went through the battles of Pozieres and Bapaume. He was a promising young man and his death is regretted by all who knew him.
