Tarrant, Alfred Ernest
Born 21st September 1893 Derby Tasmania to Alfred and Caroline Tarrant (nee Newland) had been Lieutenant in Senior Cadets Beaconsfield and working as a school teacher when he embarked Hobart 20th October 1914 on board “HMAT Geelong with the 12th Infantry Battalion. Lance Corporal Tarrant died 11th November 1915 Shrapnel Gulley Gallipoli and was buried Shell Green Cemetery, Gallipoli, Turkey. ROLL OF HONOUR. General regret was expressed at Lefroy on Saturday when news was received that Lance-Corporal A. Tarrant had been killed in action at Gallipoli. The fallen hero was brought up and educated at Lefroy. After leaving the state school he went through the Training College, Hobart, and was a teacher at Invermay when the war broke out. He was in the machine gun section of the 12th Battalion, and took part in the first landing at Gabs Tepe Examiner Launceston 13th December 1915
