Thomas, Henry Edwin

Private Henry Edwin Thomas

 

Born 30th December 1896 Railton Tasmania the son of Joseph and Jane Clement Thomas (nee Sloane) a labourer he embarked Melbourne 8th February 1916 on board “HMAT Warilda” with the 12th Infantry Battalion

 He was killed in action 5th May 1917 in France and is commemorated on the Villers-Bretonneux Memorial, Villers-Bretonneux, Picardie, France. 

Last week Reverend R W Thomas Anglican clergyman of Latrobe in the absence of the Reverend B Semmens Methodist minister of Sheffield conveyed the sad news to Mr and Mrs J Thomas that their youngest son Pte Henry Edwin Thomas had been killed in action in France between March 5th and 8th.  Private “Ted” Thomas entered the trenches last July and was only 20 years old last December.  Great sympathy is expressed for the parents.  Private Thomas was a favourite with all who knew him.
