Thorne, George Frederick
Born 5th June 1897 Waratah Tasmania to Walter Thomas and Mary Jane Thorne (nee Healds) a printer who departed Brisbane 29th June 1915 on board “HMAT Aeneas” with the 26th Infantry Battalion. He was killed in action 29th July 1916 and is commemorated on the Villers-Bretonneux Memorial, France. Mrs M. J. Duckworth, of Best St., Devonport, yesterday received notification of the death of her eldest son, Pte. G. P. Thorne who was killed in action on July 29 (previously reported missing). Pte. Thorne, prior to enlistment was employed at the 'Advocate' office, Devonport, and was only 19 years of age. His stepfather was killed in action in July, of last year. A younger member of the family Pte Leslie Duckworth, is now on his way to France. The North Western Advocate 4th August 1917
