Thorne, Hubert Cyril

 

Born 1889 Waratah Tasmania the son of James Henry and Mary Jane Thorne (nee Schofield) a labourer who embarked Brisbane 29th June 1915 on board “HMAT Aeneas” with the 26th Infantry Battalion.

He was killed in action 27th June 1918 in France and like others with no known grave is commemorated on the Villers-Bretonneux Military Cemetery, France.

 His brother Pte Cecil Benjamin Thorne (No 501) was also killed in action 6th January 1917 and is commemorated on the Villers-Bretonneux Memorial, France.

Rev. G. H. Judd of Waratah had the sad duty of breaking to Mr. J. H.Thorne the news that his son, Private Hubert ('Ginger') Thorne, had been  killed in action in France. This is the second son of Mr. Thorne who has given his all for King and country and the sympathy of everyone is freely given to the bereaved family.
