Tillack Leslie Charles
He was born 1898 Rhyndaston Tasmania to Henry Charles and Emmeline Eleanor Tillack (nee Williams) a farmer who was only 16 when he enlisted and embarked Brisbane 29th June 1915 on board “HMAT Aeneas” with the 26th Infantry Battalion. He was killed in action 3rd October 1918 and is commemorated in the Prospect Hill Cemetery, Gouy, France. Our Colebrook correspondent writes: -Much sympathy has been expressed for Mr. and Mrs. H. C. Tillack and family of Mt. Baines, Colebrook in the loss of their eldest son, who was killed in action in France on October 3. Private Leslie C. Tillack entered Claremont Camp in March, 1915 at the early age of 16 years. He left with the 26th Battalion went to Gallipoli, and was sent to England in October, 1915 suffering from dysentery. Later he went to France and was wounded and sent again to England in April, 1917, having received a gunshot wound in the left leg. He remained in England until July, 1918 when he returned to his battalion, and was killed a few days before the Australians were withdrawn. His was indeed a noble example and he will be missed in sporting circles as he was a very promising young athlete. The Mercury 23rd November 1918
