Todd, Gladstone James

Born 1893 St Mary’s Tasmania the son of William John and Caroline Eliza Todd (nee Cougla) employed by the National Bank he embarked Hobart on board “HMAT Geelong” with the 3rd Light Horse “C” squadron.

Sergeant Todd died 20th April 1917 at the 1st Light Horse Field Ambulance Palestine from a bomb wound to the chest and was buried in the Gaza War Cemetery, Gaza, Israel.

His brother Gunner George Benson Todd (No 4306) was killed in action 24th April 1918 in France and is commemorated in the Frechencourt Communal Cemetery, Frechencourt, Amiens, Picardie, France.

Deep regret was expressed when word was received at St Marys of the death from wounds in Egypt on April 20th of Sergeant G Todd eldest son of Mr W. J. Todd of St Marys.  Deceased enlisted at the outbreak of war and served through the Gallipoli campaign without once being wounded.  He was of a particularly genial disposition and was a general favourite.  In the absence of the Rev. Stuart Wall the sad news was conveyed by Mrs Wall to the bereaved parents for whom the keenest sympathy is felt.
