Tole, Claude
Born Devonport Tasmania a labourer the son of Frederick Joseph and Laura Tole who listed his sister Miss Violet Tole as his next of kin he embarked Brisbane 25th May 1915 on board “HMAT Ascanius” with the 7th Field Ambulance. He had served 2 years in the Citizen Forces and was still serving when he enlisted. Driver Tole was killed in action 9th August 1918 in France and is commemorated in the Fouilloy Communal Cemetery, Fouilloy, Picardie, France. He is also commemorated on the Devonport Tasmania War Memorial Rev. G. Rowe, B.A., of Devonport, at the request of Miss Dulcie Luck had the sad duty yesterday morning to convey to Miss Winnie Tole, Mesdames A. Baldock and T. C. Smith (sisters) that Private Claude Tole had been killed at the front in France. The message came from his brother (Private Walter Tole), handed in at the Field Post Office in France.
