Townsend, William

 

Born 1882 Copping Tasmania the son of John and Mary Ann Townsend (nee Newitt) a bushman he departed Melbourne 10th November 1915 on board “HMAT Ascanius” with the 12th Infantry Battalion.

He was killed in action 27th February 1917 in France and is commemorated in the Warlencourt British Cemetery, France.

TOWNSEND. -Killed in action in France on February 27, 1917, Private William Town- send, fourth son of Mr. John Townsend Coppington, and brother of Mrs. J. S. Lambert, of Table Cape Lighthouse, in the 34th year of his age. He died for King and Country.
