Venn, Matthew Sylias

Born 9^th August 1897 Parattah Tasmania the son of Matthew Silas and Matilda Venn (nee Harding) a labourer he embarked Melbourne 14^th February 1917 on board “HMAT Osterley” with the 15^th Machine Gun Battalion.

He was killed in action 15^th December 1917 in Belgium and is commemorated in the Lindenhoek Chalet Military Cemetery, Belgium.

His brother John Henry Venn (No 3204) was also killed in action 13^th June 1918 and is commemorated on the Villers-Bretonneux Military Cemetery.

On Sunday evening Mr.-and Mrs. Venn of Piper's River had the sad news conveyed to them to the effect that their son, Matthew Venn, had died of wounds in France. They have two other sons at the front, and another at Claremont.
