Vertigan, John William
Born 30th January 1896 Forth Tasmania to George Baxter and Maria Jane Vertigan (nee Cox) a blacksmith who departed Melbourne 19th February 1915 on board “HMAT Runic” with the 14th Infantry Battalion. Lance Sergeant Vertigan was serving with the 15th Infantry Battalion when he was killed in action 9th August 1915 on the Gallipoli Peninsula and is commemorated on the Lone Pine Memorial, Gallipoli, Turkey.
