Vertigan, John William

Born 30^th January 1896 Forth Tasmania to George Baxter and Maria Jane Vertigan (nee Cox) a blacksmith who departed Melbourne 19^th February 1915 on board “HMAT Runic” with the 14^th Infantry Battalion.

Lance Sergeant Vertigan was serving with the 15^th Infantry Battalion when he was killed in action 9^th August 1915 on the Gallipoli Peninsula and is commemorated on the Lone Pine Memorial, Gallipoli, Turkey.
