Washington, Albert Born 1887 Bendigo Victoria the son of Joseph Joslin and Ellen Washington (nee Perry) married to Emily May Fitzgerald with two children, a repairer on the railway he embarked Hobart 1st July 1916 on board “HMAT Berrima” with the 40th Infantry Battalion and the rank of Sergeant
Sgt Washington was killed in action 5th October 1917 in Belgium and is commemorated on the Menin Gate Memorial, Ypres, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium Word was received at Lilydale on Saturday that Sergeant Bert Washington had been killed in action. Sergeant Washington enlisted over 12 months ago and leaves a widow and two children who reside at Lilydale. Prior to enlistment he was a railway employee at Lietinna. Much sympathy is felt for the bereaved. The Examiner Launceston 30th October 1917
