Webber, Francis Llewellyn
Born 7th June 1894 Evandale Tasmania to Frank and Annie Webber (nee Wells) a farmer who departed Melbourne 27th September 1915 on board “HMAT Hororata” with the 12th Infantry Battalion. He was serving with the 52nd Battalion when he was killed in action 4th September 1916 and is commemorated in the Villers-Bretonneux Memorial, France. Mrs T. J. Webber of Blessington has received the following report in reference to her son (Private F. L. Webber), who has been missing since September 4:-"France. F. A. Maunder, 822; F. L. Webber, 2859. They both belonged to the Scout P.L., and went out with a fatigue party carrying bombs on September 3 in the night. They got into a trench, of which we held part and the Germans held part. By mistake they got over a barricade among the Germans. Webber was badly wounded and got back over the barricade. Maunder did not get back. Webber was very bad, and must have died. I was at Kay's dump and saw members of the party as they came back. Examiner Launceston 9th February 1917
