Wells, Merton Ulverstone

 

 

 

 

Born 1893 Ulverstone Tasmania the son of Henry George and Isabella Wells (nee McKean) a plumber who embarked Sydney on board “HMAT Star of Victoria” with the 8th Field Company Engineers

He was serving with the 32nd Battalion when he died 24th June 1918 in France from wounds received in the field and was buried in the Mericourt-L'Abbe Communal Cemetery Extension, France.

Yet another of our well known lads has gone to the rest in the person of Sapper Merton Ulverstone Wells, 14th Field Company Engineers, A.I.F. News has come through that he died on June 24, of wounds received in action in France. He saw 2 1/2 years service and enlisted whilst employed on the waterworks construction at Wynyard. He was the youngest son of the late Mr. G. K. Wells, of Ulverstone and in the athletic world was well-known, particularly in football circles. His brother Horace, is the electrical engineer at Ulverstone at the present time.
