Westerway, Edgar

 

Bushy Park Memorial – Red Hills Cemetery Bushy Park

 

Born 27th January 1890 New Norfolk Tasmania the son of William Henry and Rhoda Catherine Westerway (nee Higgins) a farmer he embarked Melbourne 9th November 1917 on board “HMAT Port Sydney” with the Field Artillery Brigade (27-35 Reinforcements)

 

He was serving with the 6th Medium Trench Mortar Battery Australian Field Artillery when he was killed in action 29th September 1918 in France and is commemorated in the Unicorn Cemetery, Vendhuile, Aisne, France

 

Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Westerway, of Russell have been officially notified that their son Private Edgar Westerway has been killed in action. He went into Claremont Camp two years ago, and left Australia with the 27th Reinforcements, Field Artillery on November 3, 1917, and was transferred to the Sixth Medium Trench Mortar Battery. He was in his 28th year and a man of fine character and physique. His two brothers are in the Australian Engineers.
