Whelan Francis Joseph

Born 26^th August 1885 Zeehan Tasmania the son of Michael and Catherine Whelan (nee Maley) married to Violet Koerbin he enlisted Victoria and embarked Melbourne 5^th January 1916 on board “HMAT Afric with the 23^rd Infantry Battalion.

He was serving with the 60^th Battalion when he was killed in action 19^th July 1916 (previously reported missing) in France and is commemorated in the VC Corner Australian Cemetery and Memorial, Fromelles, Lille, Nord Pas de Calais, France
