Whelan Francis Joseph

 

 

Born 26th August 1885 Zeehan Tasmania the son of Michael and Catherine Whelan (nee Maley) married to Violet Koerbin he enlisted Victoria and embarked Melbourne 5th January 1916 on board “HMAT Afric with the 23rd Infantry Battalion.

 

He was serving with the 60th Battalion when he was killed in action 19th July 1916 (previously reported missing) in France and is commemorated in the VC Corner Australian Cemetery and Memorial, Fromelles, Lille, Nord Pas de Calais, France
