Whitworth, James

 

 

Born Heywood Lancashire England but married and living in Ranelagh Tasmania, an orchardist who embarked Melbourne 19th September 1916 on board “HMAT Commonwealth” with the 4th Machine Gun Company.

He was serving with the 21 Company Australian Machine Gun Corps when he was killed outright by a shell 30th October 1917 in the support lines at Zonnebeke and is commemorated on the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial, Belgium.
