Williams, George Douglas
Born 14th February 1894 Ulverstone Tasmania to Phillip Edward and Mary Ann Williams (nee Jacklin) a miner who departed Hobart 1st July 1916 on board “HMAT Berrima” with the 40th Infantry Battalion Lance Corporal Williams was serving with the 47th Battalion when he was killed in action 2nd May 1918 and is commemorated in the Adelaide Cemetery, Villers-Bretonneux, France. Mr. and Mrs. Phillip Williams of Waratah has just received the sad news (conveyed to them by the Rev. J. May) that their youngest son, Pte. George Douglas Williams, 47th late 40th Battalion was killed in action on May 2, in his 24th year. He was a brave young soldier and nobly made the supreme sacrifice. His brother Captain Williams was wounded a short time ago. Much sympathy is felt for the family in their sad loss.
