If you could spare a few dollars to help with the running costs of hosting this website to keep it alive would be very much appreciated.

Thankyou from Gravesites of Tasmania in advance.

Willie, George Albert

Born 2nd September 1893 Ulverstone Tasmania the son of Joseph and Mary Ann Willie (nee Johnston) of Riana Tasmania a labourer he embarked Melbourne 5th January 1916 on board “HMAT Afric” with the 26th Infantry Battalion.

He was killed in action 5th August 1916 and is commemorated on the Villers-Bretonneux Memorial, France.

Daily Telegraph- The Rev best of Penguin, had the painful task of breaking the news to the parents of Private George Willie, intimating that he had been killed in action. Private Willie was the first soldier from Riana to make the supreme sacrifice. He was rejected three times, but he would persist in enlisting. He was a general favourite with all whom he came in contact with, being of a cheery disposition, upright and honest of character. He will be greatly missed.
