Willing, Charles Rowett

 

 

Born 18th May 1893 Hobart Tasmania the son of Charles and Ella Josephine Willing (nee Russell) an accountant he embarked Melbourne 5th January 1916 on board “HMAT Afric” with the 12th Infantry Battalion.

 

He was killed in action 6th April 1917 at Peronne in France where he was repairing telephone lines and was hit by a shell.  He was originally buried in Chafours Wood British Cemetery but with the German offensive of March 1918 this ground was refought over and his grave was destroyed.  He is commemorated in the  Vaulx Hill Cemetery, Vaulx, Bapaume Cambrai Area, France.
