Willmott John William
Born Barrington Tasmania the son of Joseph Willmott of Manjinup Western Australia, a labourer he departed Fremantle 19th April 1915 on board “HMAT Argyllshire” with the 3rd Field Artillery Brigade He served at Gallipoli but received a shell wound to the abdomen in France and died 16th September at the 3rd Australian Field Ambulance and was buried in the Tincourt New British Cemetery, France. Mrs Willmott of Latrobe is in receipt of letters from the Rev. H. D. Peel, Major C. B. Rigg, and S-Sergt J. A. Ellis in connection with the death of her son Gunner J. W Willmott who was killed in action in France some 'little time ago.' Gunner Willmott was attached to the 1st Aus. Field Artillery Brigade and he was wounded by a shell which fell on the 3rd Battery on September 16, and died shortly afterwards the body being interred at a military cemetery in front of Peronne with a cross erected over the grave. Each of the letters testified to the splendid character of the deceased with Major Rigg stating that Gunner Willmott was one of the best men in the Brigade and expressing his and the officers sympathy to the family The North Western Advocate 24th December 1918
