Studio portrait of 2408 Private (Pte) Allan John Joseph Wing, 40th Battalion, of Levendale, Tas. A labourer before enlisting on 2 October 1916, Pte Wing embarked from Melbourne on 21 October 1916 with the 4th Reinforcements on HMAT Port Melbourne (A16). He was killed in action on 13 October 1917 at Passchendaele, at the age of 23. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Menin Gate Memorial. His brother, 2531 Robert George Wing, had been killed in action on 9 August 1916.
