Woodward, Charles Calvert Glenn

 

 

 

Born 22nd August 1891 Port Cygnet Tasmania the son of Charles and Jane Eleanor Woodward (nee Henshaw) a butcher he embarked Hobart 20th October 1914 on board “HMAT Geelong” with the 12th Infantry Battalion.   

 

He served on the Gallipoli Peninsula where he was promoted to Corporal on the 1st July 1915 and gained a further promotion on the 27th September 1915 to Temporary Sergeant.  After arrival in Greece he was promoted to Sergeant on the 1st December 1915 and was transferred to the 52nd Battalion.

 

He was killed in action 4th September 1916 at Moquet Farm and is commemorated on the Villers-Bretonneux Memorial, Villers-Bretonneux, Villers-Bretonneux Area, France
