Barnes Clifford Keith
Born 5th October 1920 Currie, King Island to Richard and Grace Maude Barnes, he enlisted Launceston Tasmania and was posted to the 2/40th Battalion. He was a prisoner of war in Thailand when on 4th September 1944 pow’s who had survived the building of the Death Railway were marched the three miles from the Valley Road camp in Singapore to board the Rakuyo Maru which was sunk on the 12th September 1944 by the US submarine “Sealion”. Pte Barnes did not survive this incident. See Rakuyo Maru 12th September 1944
