Batten Douglas Walter

 

Born 9 May 1915 28 Stone St Launceston to Walter James and Ada Ethel Batten (nee Cross) F/Sgt Batten was a carpenter before he enlisted in the RAAF.

Sgt Batten was posted missing on the 22nd January 1944 while serving with 640 Sqn.  He was an air gunner on Halifax Mk.III LW459 which is believed to have crashed some 7 miles east of Flamborough Head.

BATTEN.-On January 22, 1944. F-Sgt Douglas Walter Batten, dearly loved only son of Mr and Mrs W. J. Batten, of 25 Frederick St., Launceston, and brother of Edna (deceased) and Kathleen, aged 28 years. Result of air operations overseas.
