Bennett Fred
Born 5th April 1917 Branxholm the son of John Henry and Madeline Bennett (nee Wilson) died 31st December 1944 and is buried in the Reichswald Forest War Cemetery . Missing Airman Now Presumed Dead Plt-Sgt Fred Bennett (28), who was reported missing on Dec. 31, 1944, is now presumed to have lost his life in air operations over Germany, according to advice received by his parents, Mr and Mrs J. H. Bennett, of Branxholm. Flt-Sgt Bennett enlisted as a transport driver in the AIF in Au-gust, 1940, and saw active service in Syria. He was posted to the Air Anti-Malaria unit and on return to Australia transferred to air crew in the RAAF. He was a wireless air gunner with a Lancaster "Squadon. He was the fifth son of Mr and Mrs Bennett. He was a pupil of the Branxholm State school and later went to the Scottsdale High School. He joined the Education Dept. and taught at the Geeveston and Ringaooma area schools.
