Blizzard, George Elvin

Born 25^th September 1918 Forest Tasmania to Samuel George and Agnes Blizzard (nee Tuxworth. He enlisted Launceston Tasmania 2 July 1940 and was posted to the 2/40^th Australian Infantry Battalion.

He was a prisoner of war and taken aboard the Tamahoko Maru to go to Japan to work in the factories there. One of the ships in the convoy exploded after being torpedoed by the US submarine USS Tang. Nearby the Tamahoko Maru was almost blown apart and water poured in through a gaping hole in her side. There were 267 Australians on board and only 72 survived.
