WAR CASUALTIES Advice has been received by Mrs. Marjorie Brett. Frederick-street, Launceston, that her husband, Capt. John William Brett (A.I.F.), was accidentally killed on October 6 while on active service. Born in 1917, Capt. Brett was the son of the late Mr. Robert Brett and the late Mrs. Clara Brett. After attending the Launceston State High School, he joined the advertising staff of "The Examiner" in 1934, later transferring to the printing department as a salesman. A commissioned officer in the militia at the outbreak of war, he joined the A.I.F. in May, 1940, and was attached to a signals school in the Middle East. Returning, he spent some time on the mainland before being drafted to New Guinea. He leaves a widow, who was formerly Miss Marjorie Wood, and two young children.
