Born Hobart Tasmania to James Elliott and Sarah Bailey Bromfield he was employed as an oxywelder when he enlisted in the AIF 

HOBART SOLDIER KILLED IN SYDNEY

SYDNEY, Sunday- Pte G Bromfield, of Macquarie Street, Hobart, was jammed between an electric train and the platform at Strathfield station last night, and died today.

He was attempting to cross the rails between the platform when a train overtook him. Soldiers and civilians had to raise the side of the carriage to release him.
