World War 11 Casualties
Burley, William George STAFF-SGT W. BURLEY ''The Wild Irishman" writes: General regret was expressed in the Ridgeley district, when it became known that Bill ("Timmy") Burley had died of wounds on active service. There was no more popular young man in the Ridgley district. He was a promising young sportsman, and especially did he excel at cricket. Before enlisting in the A .I.F. he carried on a blacksmithing business at Ridgley. He was a skilful tradesman, and a great asset to the district, but hearing the call to arms, he laid aside his hammer and tongs to join the colors. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. Burley, are respected pioneers of Ridgley, and they and their family have the heartfelt sympathy of all in the loss of a good son and brother, who was in every sense of the word a gallant soldier and a white man. Advocate Burnie 14 Dec 1943
