Burton, Sidney Herbert

 

Born 16th June 1900 at Frankston Victoria but was living at Ulverstone , Tasmania when he enlisted and was posted to the 2/3 Australian Machine Gun Bn.  He was the son of William Baxter and Sarah Ann Burton and his occupation was listed as ‘baker’.

 He was one of many captured by the Japanese and sent to work on the infamous Burma Thailand Railway.

 Sidney Herbert Burton is mentioned briefly in The War Diaries of Weary Dunlop

 “11 July 1943

The notification was received of the death at Tarsau of TX3464, Pte S.H.Burton

2/3 M.G.Bn”
