Button, Raymond Henry
Born 11 February 1922 Launceston Tasmania to Milton and Irene May Button. He was on board HMAS Parramatta which was hit by a torpedo from the German submarine U559 on the 27th November 1941. The torpedo caused the ship’s magazine to explode and she sank within minutes. There was no time to order the crew to abandon ship and only about a third of the ship’s crew managed to escape. 138 men including Able Seaman Button lost their lives in this incident.
