Cahill, Clyde McCartney
Clyde MCartney Cahill was born 28 Sep 1913 the son of Alfred Robert Cahill and Helen Margaret Whitington. He married Dorothy Berry on the 17 Jan 1933 Air/Bmr Fl/Sgt Clyde McCartney Cahill was on board Lancaster LM677 on 4 Mar 1945 on a night mission to bomb the Dortmund Ems Canal at Ladbergen Germany when the aircraft was shot down near the village of Havixbeck Landkreis Coesfeld, Nord Rhein Westphalia in the vicinity of Munster. Flt Sgt Cahill was one of 5 killed in the crash. Also on board was Flt Sgt Russell Vernon Richardson of Launceston Tasmania who was also killed. Mrs D. V. Cahill, 7 Robert St; West Hobart, has been advised that her husband, Flt-Sgt Clyde McCartney ("Peter") Cahill, who had been reported missing in air operations over Germany, is now reported dead. Flt-Sgt Cahill, who was 31 was educated at the Hutchins School, Hobart, and was a motion picture operator at the Strand Theatre before enlistment. He was keenly interested in yachting.
