Cavanagh, Ronald James
Born 14th Nov 1910 Goulburn Street South Hobart Tasmania to Edward Patrick and Hilda Cavanagh (nee Ware) Ronald James Cavanagh was a hardware salesman before he enlisted in the RAAF The Mercury 13 Dec 1944 THREE BELIEVED DEAD IN AIRCRAFT CRASH MELBOURNE, Tues-Three members of the RAAF have been posted missing, believed dead, as the result of an air crash off the coast near Anglesea yesterday morning. They are: Flt-Lt Robert Alfred Wines, of Rose Bay (NSW), captain of the aircraft; Sq Ldr Frederick Reginald McGrill, of Concord (NSW), second pilot; and LAC Ronald James Cavanagh, of Hobart (T), armourer. Two of the crew who were rescued by fishermen off Torquay are now in the Base Hospital; Geelong. They are Flt-Lt Alfred George Claire, of Kedron (Q), wireless operator air gunner, slightly injured, lacerations; and LAC Denis Robert Roberts, of Norwood (SA), seriously injured, burns. The aircraft was a Mitchell bomber from Laverton on a test flight over the Torquay sea range It was officially stated this afternoon that a fire in the aircraft caused it to crash into the sea. The Mercury 18 Dec 1944 CAVANAGH.-On December ll. 1944 LAC Ronald James, dearly beloved husband of Zilda, and loving father of Paul, Peter, and Suzanne, of 8 Garden St., Hawthorn, Melbourne, E3, aged 34. Result of air accident.
