World War 11 Casualties
Clark, Eric William Henry TWO SOLDIERS KILLED Hobart Accident Two soldiers were killed and another man was injured when the car in which they were travelling over turned in the Queens Domain, Hobart, on Wednesday night. Those killed were Capt Eric William Henry Clark (28), of ll Shoobridge St., Glebe, Hobart, and Sgt Cecil Henry Batt (36), of Kingston Beach. Frederick George Harrison, of Cherry St., Trevallyn, Launceston, the other passenger in the car, was admitted to hospital suffering from shock. The car, a single-seater roadster, driven by Capt Clark, apparently skidded in loose gravel and turned upside down. The men were pinned underneath. Harrison was able to crawl out and go for assistance. The other men were taken to hospital but were dead on arrival. An inquest was opened before the Coroner (Col Clark). Evidence of identification was given by WO Frank Gordon Tyler, and the inquiry was adjourned. The hood and windscreen of the car were smashed, but otherwise the vehicle was not badly damaged.
