Cole, Ray Osmond
The Mercury 3 June 1944 Flt Sgt Cole was the navigator on Lancaster LM316 which took off on 2nd Dec 1943 to bomb Berlin. Nothing was heard from the aircraft after take off and it did not return to base. Post War it was established that the aircraft crashed at Doberitz Germany and that all on board were killed. Flt Sgt Cole is buried in the Karrison Cemetery Doberitz. AIRMAN'S DEATH FIt-Sgt Ray Osmond Cole, only son of Mr and Mrs A. J. Cole, of Launceston, who lost his life with the crew of a bomber over Germany in December. His parents have been informed that he was buried at Duberitz. Flt Sgt Cole was an old pupil of Invermay School and the LauncestonTechnical School. He was captain of Katinka Tennis Club and champion for three years. Photo from the Mercury
