Corney, David Newell

 

 

Born at Bagdad but grew up at “Woodlands” Dennes Point on Bruny Island and the family later purchased a property “Millhouse” at Richmond Tasmania .  

Brother Phil Corney also served and after the fall of Singapore escaped from Java in a leaky boat with 11 others and after 45 days at sea traveling over 1500 miles eventually reached the West Australian coastline.  

Lieutenant David Corney died at Babau in Timor while attempting to destroy a Japanese machine gun post on the 21st. February 1942
