World War 11 Casualties

If you could spare a few dollars to help with the running costs of this website would be very much appreciated.

Thank you from Gravesites of Tasmania.

Cowan, Daris Leo Bernard

Born Cygnet Tasmania to Albert John and Ruth May Cowen, Daris was 24 years old when he enlisted and was posted to HMAS Wallaroo.

HMAS Wallaroo was involved in a midnight collision with the American merchant ship Henry Gilbert Costin 60 miles west of Fremantle on 11th June 1943.  Ten minutes after the “abandon ship” order had been given the ship slowly capsized and sunk.

Daris Leo Bernard Cowen was one of two crew members who lost their life in this collision.
