Cruickshank Robert Maynard
Born 16th June 1913 Hobart the son of Maynard Hayes and Nancie Doris Cruickshank (nee Chalmers) he enlisted Queensland and served with the 2/31 Australian Infantry Battalion. He was killed in action 11th June 1941in Syria. At the time of his death he held the rank of Major. He is commemorated on the Hobart Roll of Honour. A recent appointment ot a Tasmanian officer to the A.I.F. is that of Lieut. R. M. Cruickshank, Staff Corps, a graduate of the Royal Military College at Duntroon. Lieut., Cruickshank was educated at a State school, Toowong, Brisbane, where he won a Queensland scholarship and at Scotch College, Melbourne. He went to Duntroon In 1931 and was top of his class every year and graduated top of the college. On graduation he was appointed to the artillery and has since been stationed at Queenscliff; and Darwin. His latest appointment is that of adjutant of a regiment of field artillery in the A.I.F. Lieut Cruickshank ls the eldest son of Lieut Col. M. H. Cruickshank formerly attached to headquarters staff at Anglesea Barracks, Hobart.
