Rating Killed In Motorcycle Crash

John Cyril Davis, a naval rating attached to HMAS Huon, was killed yesterday when the motorcycle he was riding along Domain Rd. crashed into a fence.

Davis, who lived at 202 George Town Rd., Launceston, was in Hobart to be discharged from the Navy.

An inquest was opened by the Coroner (Mr R. O. Harris), and, after evidence of identification had been given by Geoffrey William Burston, was adjourned to a date to be fixed.

Naval Rating's Death Accidental

A finding of accidental death was given at Hobart yesterday by the Coroner (Mr R. O. Harris) at an inquest into the death on Nov 20 of John Cyril Davis.

Davis, who was a naval rating attached to HMAS Huon, was killed when the motorcycle he was riding crashed into a guide post in Domain Rd.

Brian Melville Garratt said he saw Davis grab for his hat which blew off. Davis looked behind and the motorcycle shot across the road and struck a guide post.
