World War 11 Casualties
Eastall Ernest Lochlan
Born 21 May 1909 Ulverstone Tasmania to Ernest and Maud Eastall (nee Stalker) Corporal Eastall served with the RAAF 7 Transport & Movement Office Madang and was on board Douglas C-47A-30-DK which was travelling from Gurney to Dobodura airfield in Papua and New Guinea when it flew into a tropical storm. The pilot reported that he was returning to base but nothing further was heard and it failed to return. The aircraft apparently crashed into the sea as there was found to be oil, life jackets etc floating on the surface at Milne Bay. The 3 crewmen and 19 passengers on board including Corporal Eastall all lost their lives in this incident.
