Born Hobart Tasmania to Ernest Robert and Lucy Ashton Giblin, he was married and working as a salesman on Flinders Island when he enlisted in the Army

OBITUARY Pte. R. Giblin

The funeral of Pte Robert Giblin, who was killed in the aeroplane disaster off Flinders Island, took place at the Whitemark cemetery on Sunday

The Rev. T. Cloudsdale officiated.  Pte. Giblin was given a military funeral. Mr. H. Haworth read the soldiers' ritual. Pall-bearers were Messrs. G. Gardner, J. L. Davie. J. Cooper, and T. Lee (members of the V.D.C.). Carriers were Lieut, F. Henwood, Cpl. G. Hammond, Ptes. J. Sheegog, L. Withers, J. Furguson, and L. Jackson.
