Hale Alfred Thomas Bruce

 

Sergeant Alfred Thomas Bruce Hale, service number 4708, is buried at Alexandria (Chatby) Military and War Memorial Cemetery, Egypt. Coll. grave P.18-20. Age 23. Son of Alfred and Alice Maud Hale, of Strahan, Tasmania, Australia.

Wireless operator who served with 3 squadron for a time but had been transferred to Blenheim equipped 55 squadron at the time of his death.

OBITUARY  

SERGEANT A. B. HALE Regret was expressed throughout the Strahan Municipality when news of the death of Sergeant A. B. (Tim) Hale was received recently. Sergeant Hale, who was killed in a flying accident In the Middle East, was 23 years of age and was a son of Mrs. A. M. and the late Mr. Alfred Hale, and received early education at Strahan. He also studied at the Queenstown Technical School, where he was considered a brilliant scholar. After completing his education he cntered the employment of the Mt. Lycll Co as a draftsman. Sergeant Hale was always interested in flying, and prior to the outbreak of war enlisted with the R.A.A.F. He volunteered for service overseas when war broke out. Some time ago he was promoted to the rank of sergeant and transferred to the R.A.F., with whom he was serving at the time of his death. He had been officially credited with the destruction of an enemy plane.
