Born Dromedary Tasmania to Henry Edward and Grace Gertrude Johnston and was a stoken on board H.M.A.S Parramatta which at about midnight on the 26th November 1941 was hit by a torpedo on a pitch dark and raining night.

The HMAS Parramatta was hit amidships by the torpedo which caused an explosion in the magazine.  The ship was torn apart, rapidly rolled to starboard and sank.
