World War 11 Casualties

If you could spare a few dollars to help with the running costs of this website would be very much appreciated.

Thank you from Gravesites of Tasmania.

Lewis Leslie Raymond

Leslie Raymond was born 269 Murray Street Hobart to Victoria Irene Pearl Lewis 21st November 1917

He enlisted on the 22nd May 1934 and his rank was a leading seaman.

Service: Royal Australian Navy Service Number:19988

On 19th November 1941, following a battle with the German raider, HSK Kormoran in the Indian Ocean off the Western Australian coast H.M.A.S. Sydney disappeared, almost with a trace.

The loss of the Sydney with its full war complement of 645 remains to this day Australia’s worst ever naval disaster and one of its greatest wartime mysteries..The only confirmed relics found were a lifebelt and a Carley life float damaged by shellfire
