World War 11 Casualties

If you could spare a few dollars to help with the running costs of this website would be very much appreciated.

Thank you from Gravesites of Tasmania.

Merritt Robert

Robert Merritt was the youngest of 9 children to William and Clara Merritt born on the 11th Nov 1922 in Derby Tasmania.

He joined up at the age of 17 and on the 6th May 1944, a note was sent courtesy of the Imperial Japanese Army to a sister to inform of his capture as a POW.

The family had been told that Robert would leave the POW camp to source food for others and was warned on more than one occassion that it should cease or dire consequences of his actions would be taken.

He was executed by the Japanese at Ubon Thailand attempting to escape

Thankyou to Daryl Maxwell for the above information

We have in every instance made a good faith effort to contact and request 'reprint' permission. Nonetheless, we do want to be certain that nothing gets lost due to web site disappearance and the like, so it appears duplicated here.
