Born 5 Feb 1922 at Liettinna, Tasmania, the youngest son and 8th of 9 children for Albert Edward Moore and Rose Elizabeth Jenkins, Noel Leslie Moore enlisted for army service in October 1939. He was 17 years of age. A country boy reared to work on a farm, he knew courage and stamina in all conditions and weather.  The tragedy of war is the loss of lives too young to have really lived life as we would wish him to know it, and yet in those 18 months of army service Noel would have experienced hardship, 'mateship', exultation and emotion most of us will never know. He was killed in action 4th May 1941at Tobruk – he was only 19!

Mr and Mrs. A. E. Moore of Scottsdale have received notification from the Minister for the Army of the death in action of their youngest son, Private Noel Leslie Moore. Private Moore who was a pupil of the Scottsdale High School, joined the Railway Department and was employed at Launceston when he enlisted. He was among the first to offer their services, and has three brothers serving, Lance-Corporal Gordon Moore, Sapper R. F. Moore and Private Albert Moore.

We would like to thank Gaele Arnott  nee Moore for the photo and information above
