The Mercury 9th Oct 1943 

OATES.-VX68835, Pte Donald Walter Oates, 9th Div.. 2nd AIF, loving husband of Ivy Oates (nee Grundy), fourth son of Walter Charles and the  late Margaret Oates, of Hobart, and loving brother of Frank, Max (deceased), Roy, Trevor, Terence, Gordon, and Noreen. Died of wounds New Guinea, September 4, 1943, aged 30 years.
